Health and Safety Programmes
Under normal conditions, at ambient temperatures, bitumen is a hard wearing solid that does not pose any health or environmental problems.
To allow ease of handling it is normally stored, transported and applied in liquid form at high temperatures. Therefore any hazards that might be faced by the industry would only arise in the work environment, from handling a substance at elevated temperatures. A principal focus for the industry is to adopt exemplary working practices to ensure the protection of the workforce and general public.
Eurobitume promotes meticulous working practices relating to occupational health and publishes a set of guidelines entitled, "Safe Handling of Bitumen". This publication addresses the hazards, recommends safety measures and provides first aid advice.
